Rivers Of Renewal
THIS PROJECT PROPOSES A SERIES OF KNITTED, RECYCLED, WOOL PANELS STRETCHED AND HUNG FROM CUSTOM FABRICATED, BENT STEEL TUBES. THE ELEGANT PANELS CREATE RECEPTION AND EXHIBITION SPACES TO DISPLAY FASHION WITHIN THE FORMER WOOL MILL IN A FLEXIBLE MANNER THAT CAN BE REARRANGED ACCORDING TO CURATORIAL NEEDS. TO FURTHER CONNECT THE PROJECT TO ITS CONTEXT, RIVER ROCKS FROM THE CERVO RIVER ARE CAREFULLY DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THE EXHIBITION SPACE TO ANIMATE THE MEANDERING PATHWAYS OF THE FASHION EXHIBIT AND EXPAND THE RELATIONSHIP OF BIELLA’S WOOL INDUSTRY TO ITS LOCAL ENVIRONMENT. SIMILAR TO THE ORIGINAL WOOL MILL, WHICH WAS BUILT FROM A COMBINATION OF BOULDERS FROM THE RIVER AND BRICKS, THIS DESIGN PROPOSES TO RELATE TO THE ECOLOGY OF THE RIVER, RECOGNIZING ITS SIGNIFICANCE TO THE WOOL INDUSTRY OF BIELLA. THE PROJECT AIMS TO CELEBRATE THE INTERSECTION OF STYLE AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY, SHOWCASING HOW FASHION CAN EVOLVE TO MINIMIZE ITS IMPACT ON THE PLANET. Instructor: Margaret Griffin
